Peter Gilmore Realizes "You've Got To Seize It While You've Got The Chance"
"It" is a shot at the Olympic team in the marathon, and Gilmore, who's been a top ten finisher in the Gilmore_peterboston06 Boston Marathon for three consecutive years, thinks this is his time. Now 30, he used to want to be a starting pitcher for the Dodgers."I'm not on the top of everyone's list," he says of Trials speculation, but he notes he's surpassed expectations before and states "I'm fine where I'm at." Fasil Bizuneh Benefits From Marathon Training Camp
The 2007 USA Half Marathon Championships runnerup is prepping for the U.S. Olympic Men's Marathon Trials on November 3. Bizuneh is now in Boulder and observes "now that I’ve gotten the chance to be in a world-class marathon training camp with a coach that expects nothing less than a 100% commitment from all of his athletes, it makes a little more sense to me. It would have been impossible for me to handle this volume of work if I was still in Flagstaff, running around town all day, wasting time, and going out for a few beers a couple nights each week." Darrell General Aims For Sixth Trials Qualifier At Chicago This Weekend
General, 41, from Hyattsville MD, is hoping to become the first runner to qualify for six USA Men's Olympic Marathon Trials. He's run every one since 1988, but he needs a sub-2:22 at Chicago, and it's going to be tough. More

Georgia Teacher Tom Kutter Wakes Early For Marathon-Trials Workouts
Kutter, one of the 2:20+ qualifiers, isn't expecting a trip to Beijing but recognizes that running in the Olympic Marathon Trials is a "once in a lifetime" opportunity. So he's up every morning at 4:30 am. for his workout, and his wife accompanies him on her bicycle. More

Josh Rohatinsky And Adam Goucher Make Strong Half-Marathon Debuts At Great North Run
Of course Kara Goucher stole the headlines by beating Paula Radcliffe 1:06:57 to 1:07:53 in Radcliffe's first post-baby performance. But Rohatinsky finisheed fifth in the men's race in 1:02:54 and was closely followed by Kara's husband, Adam, in 1:03:17. Neither Rohatinsky or Goucher have ever run a marathon, but both are qualified for the Marathon Trials on November 3 through their fast track performances. Rohatinsky is known to be running the Trials. Goucher is more of a question mark, though both he and his coach Alberto Salazar have spoken positively about a November marathon. The Great North Run course is point to point and slightly downhill.

Dathan And Kalin Reitzenhein Finish Baby Marathon
Their daughter, Addison, was born Friday afternoon in Eugene OR, about two weeks after her due date. Ritzenhein skipped his planned appearance at the Great North Run in England to stay with his wife. The additional rest--if you can call having a baby restful--could help Ritzenhein's preparations for the Olympic Marathon Trials. His last race in Central Park, the Healthy Kidney 10K in May, came after a 3-month break from racing. Competing fresh, he set a course record.

Ryan Hall's Coach, Terrence Mahon, Says Hall Is Training Well

Mahon guided Hall to his brilliant marathon debut at London last April, and is once again priming him for the 26.2-mile distance. "His mileage per week is in the 120s to 130s right now," says Mahon. "He is doing his interval sessions at 9,000 feet at Lake Mary, where Deena Kastor and Meb Keflezighi did a lot of their training prior to the Athens Olympics. It is very challenging for him to work out at this altitude, but very rewarding. We find that the loop around the lake mimics the terrain and undulations of Central Park very well. We feel that it will really help with developing Ryan's sense of pace and effort and knowing how to distribute those elements while on an uneven marathon course. Every other week, Ryan is also doing a 90- to 100-minute uphill run that c! limbs up to 9,300 feet. In addition, his training includes his classic marathon buildup runs of 20-24 miles, with the last 8-10 miles run at marathon pace. We expect him to be rounding into top form at the perfect time for the race."
