A BRIEF CHAT WITH PETER GILMORE, JOSH ROHATINSKY AND RYAN SHAY

Reported by Peter GambaccinPublished on 10/25/07Peter Gilmore, Josh Rohatinsky, and Ryan Shay are all being termed "dark horse" candidates to make the top three at the U.S. Men's Olympic Marathon Trials on November 3 in New York and thus qualify for the 2008 Beijing Games. Peter Gilmore set his personal 26.2-mile time of 2:12:45 for seventh place at the 2006 Boston Marathon. He was tenth in the 2006 ING New York City Marathon in 2:13:13. In horrendous conditions,
Gilmore was eighth in the Boston Marathon this April in 2:16:41. He was eighth at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in 2:15:44.
Josh Rohatinsky, the 2006 NCAA Cross Country champion for Brigham Young University, is making his marathon debut. He is now living and training in Oregon and being coached by Alberto Salazar.
Ryan Shay was the 2003 USA Marathon champion (in St. Louis) in 2:14:29 and set his personal best of 2:14:08 with a ninth place New York City Marathon finish in 2004. He was third at the 2006 Twin Cities Marathon in 2:14:58. He was the 2001 NCAA 10,000-meter champion while at Notre Dame and is married to another NCAA 10,000 titleist - the former Alicia Craig of Stanford.
