Since mid summer Alberto Salazar has been coaching Josh Rohatinsky in the Portland OR area. Salazar is the American marathon great who stormed into New York City in 1980, straight out of the University of Oregon, and won his first marathon. He followed up with New York City Marathon wins the next two years. He had a serious heart attack in late July, and another stent put into a coronary artery in the last several weeks.

Rohatinsky is a 2007 BYU grad, coached by Ed Eyestone, who won the NCAA Cross Country Championships last year, and earlier this year ran 13:25.53 and 27:55.86 for 5000 and 10,000 meters. Rohatinsky has had one tuneup race this fall. On Sept. 29, he finished fifth in the Great North Run Half Marathon in 62:54. (For comparison, Dathan Ritzenhein ran the same race a year earlier in 61:25.)
