Ducks win NCAA cross country title: The Register-Guard, Eugene, Ore.Published by
Oregon turned in its best combined performance in history at the 2007 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on Monday. The UO men captured their first NCAA title since 1977 with 85 points, while the Duck women took second with 177. It’s only the fourth time in school history that both teams earned trophies at the national championships. The Duck men were led by UO junior Galen Rupp, who finished second to Liberty’s Josh McDougal by one second in a stirring battle over the final 100 meters of the 10,000-meter race. McDougal won in 29 minutes, 22.4 seconds and Rupp was clocked in 29:23.4. The UO men’s scorers were junior Shadrack Kiptoo-Biwott (9th, 29:55.9), sophomore Diego Mercado (30th, 30:27), sophomore Kenny Klotz (37th, 30:36) and redshirt freshman Daniel Mercado (41st, 30:37), who fell at the 3K mark. Iona took second in the team competition with 113 points, followed by Oklahoma State (180) and Northern Arizona (190). Read the full article at: registerguard.com
